Dr Dimitrios Siganos is founder and director of Vlemma Eye Center in Athens.

Qualified by the University of Cairo Medical School as M.B., B.Ch, and holding the title of MSC. (Ophth), he continued his academic career at the University of Crete, Greece as a lecturer and later, as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology.

He is internationally considered to be one of the pioneering surgeons, not only in refractive surgery but also in premium lenses cataract surgery and presbyopia correction. He introduced clear lensectomy to ophthalmology for the correction of hyperopia and presbyopia. He was among the first to implant ICLs for the correction of myopia and hyperopia – astigmatism. He was also the first surgeon in Europe to use and publicize Ferrara rings for treating keratoconus and was at the spearhead of the clinical trials of the Pascal tonometer for glaucoma, myopia and keratoconus.

He is active as a clinical advisor and freelance surgeon in refractive and cataract surgery in many centers in Europe and the Middle East. His bibliography includes tens of original references and reviews in medical journals, book chapters and presentations at conferences at the american Academy of Ophthalmology, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and other international conferences. He has thousands of citations of his work.
